Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) is a US Dept. of HUD program which assists very low-income families, the elderly, and disabled with decent, safe and affordable housing.

A voucher holder can lease a unit from a landlord that is willing to participate in the program and that has a unit that meets the Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspection protocol. MHA has eight hundred sixty-four (864) Conventional Vouchers and fifteen (15) Veteran Affair Supportive Housing (VASH) Vouchers, but issuance is subject to funding availability.

Entry into the waitlist is based on a lottery system.  When the current waitlist has been exhausted, the application process will be advertised in the local media and on our website. Once advertised the applications will be available for download and printing on our website for three days and by hardcopy for one business day at the MHA main office.
